Grass clipping not bagged after July 1st 2009 will not be picked up and a letter of violation will be sent. Residents can and are encouraged to put their small piles of brush and yard waste in paper bags also. This is to facilitate a cleaner and faster pickup.

  • Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) www.ocrra.org Recommends
Leave grass clippings on the lawn! Grass clippings are 80 to 85 percent water. If you mow your lawn once a week, the clippings will filter down and decompose within 7-10 days. Also reduces the amount of fertilizer you need by 25 -30% by returning nutrients to soil. Use as mulch, place up to one inch thick around the base of shrubs. The mulch will prevent water loss and eventually decompose. Compost them. Mix with leaves, wood chips or garden materials.

    Heavy Trash Pickup
  • D.P.W. employees pickup an average of 275 tons of heavy trash annually.
  • Heavy Trash is picked up once per year in the fall.
  • Heavy Trash should be put out no earlier than the weekend before the scheduled pickup. We ask that residents be sensitive in the timing of putting out debris, for it affects the appearance of our Village.
  • Contractors doing work in the Village must remove their own debris as per Village Code.
  • Waste motor oil, car batteries, tires, and asbestos products, microwave ovens, TV's, paint cans with wet paint in them, Propane or fuel tanks, Construction debris or anything with Freon in them cannot be accepted. Homeowners are responsible for the proper disposal of those items.

  • HEAVY TRASH PICK UP SCHEDULE
The Heavy Trash Schedule has not been set at this time. It is usually in September the first full week of the month The Village Board will determine and sets the dates and will be posted in the local papers and on this webpage.
Items not picked up may be able to be brought to OCRRA

Please check with OCRRA C-3 site to see what items you can bring there http://www.ocrra.org/recycling_c3.asp

    Leaf Pickup
  • D.P.W. employees pick up on the average (575 yards) of both loose and bagged leaves annually.
  • D.P.W. crews pickup leaves until snow covers the piles or the leaves are gone.
  • Please put small piles of leaves in paper bags.
  • (Leaves put out in plastic bags will not be accepted).

  • Snow Plowing
  • A total of 26 miles of village roads and 8 miles of sidewalks are maintained during the winter months.
  • During the winter months we ask that village residents remove the portable basketball hoops from the edge of the road and refrain from shoveling snow or plowing snow onto or across the roadway. Snow that is deposited on the roadway will freeze, thus causing ice conditions making it unsafe for motorists and pedestrians.
